Facebook is a social networking website launched in February 2004. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. It is a great social networking site to catch up with your high school friends or get to know more new people.
However, people tend to misuse such websites to post comments or create groups that contains information that are sensitive, religious or explicit. I feel that it is not right for people to misuse features of facebook that is to socialize and make new friends.
Recently, facebook has been banned in Pakistan due to the set up of a page "Draw Mohummad Day" which slights other's religion. I feel that Facebook should not be used for political or religious purposes. After all, facebook has many users from worldwide and there must be people from different religions and people who have different political views.
Setting up such pages will cause unhappiness and conflicts between different users of Facebook. This will then defeat the purpose of this social networking site which was originally created to let people socialize and make more friends. Different people believe in different religions, so I believe that Facebook users should respect one another's religions and not slam at each other's religions.
Groups like different retail brands, sports, hobbies, interests can be created freely, as this can bring users with same interests together. They can also start commenting and discuss about their common interests. This is the purpose of a social networking website.
Facebook is a successful social networking page with more than 4 million users. It is free and user friendly. Users can create profiles with photos, lists of personal interests, contact information and other personal information. Communicating with friends and other users can be done through private or public messages or a chat feature. Users can also create and join interest groups and "like pages". Regarding concerns about privacy, Facebook enables users to choose their own privacy settings and choose who can see what parts of their profile.
However, since Facebook is for everyone to use for free, they will not be able to control whatever that is posted up on the website. This will result in groups or pages created to slam other religions or people. A possible consequence is that facebook will be banned on religious based countries like Pakistan due to the setting up of the page "Draw Mohummad Day", this will cause people to not be able to use the functions of Facebook because of inconsiderate individuals who create such pages.
In conclusion, I feel that everyone should be mindful of what we post on the internet.
